Fractal Project
Fractals are typically self similar patterns, and are the same from far and near. Fractals generally grow larger or smaller by some predetermined scale, and are self similar (iterated,) Bonoit mandelbrot coined the term fractal in 1975, and used fractals to extend the concept of theoretical fractional dimensions to patterns in nature. It must be added that fractals are not limited to geometric patterns. You will find fractals in nature, art, technology, and even law.

The Hero project
GRADE 10 ENGLISH
Students began by identifying traits and accomplishments that define the word “hero” to them. From there, they each selected a personal hero (someone they know) to interview. The ultimate goal of the interview was for students to glean their personal hero’s hero; however, this had to be a “researchable” person, so students had to practice interviewing skills and strategies. Using research on their hero’s hero, students created a PowerPoint to show what they learned. Finally, they wrote an argumentative essay where they had to decide whether they agreed with their personal hero that their research subject is, in fact, worthy of the “hero” title. |
SUPPLY AND DEMAND BOARD GAMES
ECONOMICS
In this project students learned the role of demand and supply in the marketplace and how it affects the choices they make. We studied the relationship between price and the demand and supply of goods. Students were challenged to use their knowledge of demand and supply to create a board game that reflected "real world' determinants of a good. In small groups, students researched the determinants of goods such as soda, shoes, and clothing to create a board game that reflected the rise and fall of prices and the quantity of goods supplied at different prices. |
